Thyroid is a tiny, butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of the neck just below Adam's apple. It's a portion of an intricate network of glands called the endocrine system.

A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland. It may arise only for a short duration and may go away on its own without any treatment.
Goiter is more prevalent in women than in men and particularly in women before menopause.
Thyroid Nodule:
A thyroid nodule is a swelling in one part of the thyroid gland. The nodule may be filled with fluid, blood, or solid. The patient may have just one thyroid nodule or numerous.
Thyroid cancer:
Thyroid cancer arises when cancer cells form from the tissues of the thyroid gland. Many people with thyroid cancer have a thyroid nodule that does not affect any symptoms. If the patient does have symptoms, may have swelling or a lump in his neck. The lump may cause problems in swallowing. Some people get a hoarse voice.
Thyroiditis:
Thyroiditis is a thyroid disease in which the patient has an inflammation in the thyroid gland. There are various types of thyroiditis: postpartum thyroiditis, silent thyroiditis, acute thyroiditis, and radiation-induced thyroiditis. Thyroiditis can cause hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or both. For example, with postpartum thyroiditis, patients begin having symptoms of hyperthyroidism, followed by symptoms of hypothyroidism.
Hyperthyroidism:
Hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid, causes your thyroid to produce more thyroid hormone than your body needs. This speeds up many body functions, like your metabolism and heart rate.
Graves' Disease:
An autoimmune disease, Graves disease causes the thyroid gland to generate too much of the thyroid hormone. Patients with Graves disease may experience anxiety, double vision, insomnia, and menstrual irregularities and is more common in women older than 20 years.

Our body requires the hormone erythropoietin to make red blood cells. This hormone facilitates the bone marrow to make these cells. A low level of this hormone can govern to anemia.
